Hello Friends!

The Directors of the Institute for Open Economic Networks (I-Open.org) invite you to join us for Abundant World Day, Wednesday, September 16, 2015 when we send our meditative thoughts to entrepreneurs and to the well-being of individuals who join us on this universal day of meditation.

Abundant World Day-A Meditation For Entrepreneurs Who Do What They Love To Do

We're designating the third Wednesday of every month as a time to connect - no matter where you are - and to raise awareness on such themes as,

  • Thinking positively about our collective economic future
  • Abundance is the law of nature and therefore, economics
  • Shopping local, thinking global
  • The circular flow of money within communities builds prosperity

Entrepreneurs love to do what they do. Focus on that premise for just a moment.

To begin, meditation helps entrepreneurs focus their efforts

An appreciative and strengths-based focus on creativity and innovation causes our shift from scarcity to abundance. Shifting our minds from one of scarce resources to abundant possibilities will help us redefine prosperity from a holistic perspective.

A human-centered approach is based on a holistic practice of spirituality, civility and mindfulness. This will build the foundation for using The Innovation Framework.

We believe that a network of people meditating together will help entrepreneurs everywhere deal with the stresses of daily life so that they can do what they love to do. The network idea is that many people meditating together throughout the day will create a continuous band of energy around the world to empower entrepreneurs and others to achieve what they want to accomplish.

Abundant World Day is focused on The Economics of Abundance: A Political Economy of Freedom, Equity, and Sustainability by Wolfgang Hoeschele, Truman State University, Missouri, USA (More). If you're an entrepreneur, the day is especially for you, but anyone can participate. Invite your friends and fellow entrepreneurs to join in with you. In fact, meditating in a group is very energizing and fulfilling.

Some thoughts about what meditation is

As blogger Marco Terry notes, "Meditation is not about achieving a blank state of mind. This is a popular misconception. Instead, it is about quieting things down, often focusing on one thing - in this case, your breathing."

Terry notes that meditation helped him when he was launching his company, especially when he decided to leave his job and focus on his startup full time. "Trust me," he says, "few things can be as stressful as leaving a steady paycheck to focus on your dream."

Get ready to meditate

  • Plan ahead. Schedule the time to meditate before Abundant World Day arrives, the third Wednesday of each month.
  • On Abundant World Day find a space conducive to stillness. Try meditating at the kitchen table, your favorite chair, on a walk, or before you get out of bed.
  • Position yourself comfortably. Back straight, head up, feet flat on the floor, hands folded on your lap.
  • Take two deep, cleansing breaths. Then breath normally, not deeply. Listen to the sound of your breathing, or imagine the easy ebb and flow of waves on a sandy beach, or the breeze gently rustling leaves in trees in the summer.
  • When errant thoughts clutter your mind, return to the sound of your breathing. Watch those thoughts float by, like the wind moving clouds through the sky.
  • If you find yourself distracted, anxious or overwhelmed, simply bring yourself back to the meditation.
  • We suggest starting your day with the fifteen minute meditation outlined below. If you choose to do this when you rise from bed, you'll be more rested and calm throughout the day.

Here's the practice

Say this mantra to yourself, out loud, softly:

  • "May I be well and happy." (Say this twice.)
  • "May I be free from fear and sorrow." (Say this twice.)
  • "May I be healthy and free from illness." (Say this twice.)
  • "May I live calmly and peacefully." (Say this twice.)

Disciplining yourself to do this three times a day, as well as when stress spikes, will help you to focus on the task at hand while maintaining your sense of great value.
