The debate over economic development in Northeast Ohio

Northeast Ohio, like the rest of the country, is undergoing a fundamental shift in how wealth is created. We are moving from a First Curve economy -- in which wealth depended on large command and control hierarchies -- to a Second Curve economy -- in which wealth is created through networks.

Northeast Ohio has been slower than most to make the shift. For the past fifteen years or so, the region has been losing ground to comparable cities. Ultimately, the responsibility for economic transformation rests with businesses embracing this new reality of open networks.

The slides below outline some of the challenges ahead.
